Application Requirements and Procedure

 A. An application for membership shall be submitted in writing at a regular monthly Squad business meeting and shall include a Leonardtown VRS Health Certificate. This certificate must be completed by a Physician and must include a statement indicating the applicants mental and physical ability to perform Squad duties. Applicants desiring to qualify as drivers must also provide a complete driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants for regular or associate membership must be 18 years of age at the time of application. Applicants for junior membership must be 16 years of age at the time of application.
 B. The application shall be presented at a regular business meeting in person. The application must be endorsed by a regular member in good standing that will serve as the applicants sponsoring member. After being read, the application shall be tabled until the next regular business meeting. During the tabling period, the applicant shall be screened by the membership committee and the Executive Board. The applicant will then be voted on at the next regular business meeting. It shall require a 3/4 majority of the eligible members present and voting by ballot to approve an applicant for probationary status. The applicants attendance is required unless excused by the Executive Board.
 C. Applications for Junior membership must be endorsed by the applicants parent or legal guardian and the sponsoring member. During the tabling period, the applicant and parents shall meet with the Executive Board and Sponsor to discuss the rules and regulations of Junior membership. The Executive Board will then make a recommendation to the Squad. It shall require a 3/4 majority of the eligible members present and voting to approve an applicant for Junior membership. After serving at least one year, junior members shall be eligible for regular or associate membership on or after their 18 birthday.
 D. Junior members shall be required to maintain a minimum overall scholastic grade point average of 2.0 or equivalent to participate in Squad activities. Failure to maintain the required grade point average shall result in the junior member being placed on administrative leave until it is corrected. A copy of the junior members report card shall be submitted each marking period and kept in the members file. The copies shall be returned to the member upon their departure or after the junior membership period. A work permit shall be on file with the Squad during the junior membership period.
 E. A members probationary period shall generally be for one year. Applicants that are transferring from another EMS organization and are currently Certified or Licensed in the State of Maryland as an EMT-B, CRT, or EMT-P are only required to serve a 6 month probationary period.
F.  Upon completion of the probationary period, a member shall be voted on for regular or associate membership. To be considered for regular membership the applicant must have attended at least 3/4 of the probationary periods meetings and drills and hold a current CPR card or Maryland EMS certification  or license. The applicants attendance is encouraged. Probationary members that do not meet the requirements for regular membership shall be voted on for associate membership.
G. An associate member that has satisfied the requirements in paragraph F above may request to be voted on for regular membership. It shall require a simple majority of those eligible members present and voting to approve the member for regular membership.
