By Treasurer Jaime Weber
May 25, 2018

On Wednesday, May 23rd, several members from Leonardtown Rescue, Leonardtown Fire Dept., St. Mary's ALS, and Hollywood Vol. Rescue Squad traveled to the Miller Senate Building in Annapolis to receive the Maryland Star of Life Award from MIEMSS. This award is very prestigious and these same men and women were just awarded a Unit Citation at the Southern Maryland Volunteer Fireman's Association for the same call.

On April 26, 2017, Breton Bay community heard a very loud ruckus as a H-60 helicopter came crashing down on Hole #3 on the Breton Bay Golf Course. Many people ran to aid, one person was ejected, one person was heavily pinned, and one person succumbed to their injuries. It was a sad time in the community, and many people came together for the Army Base in Fort Belvoir, VA. Later that year, a memorial stone was placed where that horrific crash once was to remember Jeremy Tomlin, who lost his life that day. The other two passengers, who had a long road of recovery, are grateful for everyone's quick response. They had severe injuries and were both flown priority 1 to the R. Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD.

Pictured are the men and women who went the day in Annapolis, MD also pictured with Lt. Governor Rutherford and Executive Directors from MIEMSS.

Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad Recipients are:
Mock Mattingly
Rocky Woodburn
Dylan Lowmiller
Kerry Klear
Tim Janey

Units: A197, A196
